Embrace a New Way of Being
psychotherapy in San diego to feel more connected, find more peace, and cultivate your authentic self
“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”
~ Carl Rogers
You are here because you are knowing something could be better or improved in your life or mindset. Maybe you are feeling like your anxiety or depression is getting the best of you. Maybe your history of trauma is impacting your life negatively today, even though the trauma itself is far in the past.
When you embrace a new state of being, your experience of life will change. The key to feeling better is reaching for a new perspective. I know change can be hard, especially when it feels like life is happening “to” us, and that can make us feel quite helpless.
But the fact that you are here, seeking a new way, means that some part of you knows there’s hope.
There are many paths to self-improvement and growth, and therapy is one of those ways. It is a unique experience where the focus is placed on you in a concentrated way. It helps you to tune in with curiosity, depth and compassion to your inner experience and gain new understanding and insight.
Together we will seek clarity on the patterns playing out in your life. A lot of our experience of life comes from unconscious patterns and beliefs operating mostly outside of our awareness. Learning how to choose our state of mind means that we become more conscious of the unconscious programs we are running on a daily basis.
But clarity of those patterns alone isn’t always enough to create change.
We will also practice ways of improving your thoughts and emotions. Although our feelings and thoughts can seem so automatic, unchangeable and therefore true – this is not the case. Feeling more empowered can sometimes happen quickly and other times it happens slowly over time, but the practice of reaching for new thoughts and feelings is absolutely key to feeling more empowered to choose your state of mind.
And when we seek to improve our state of mind, our experience of life will change.
I have studied several therapeutic methods and techniques that support positive change, such as IFS, Coherence Therapy and DBT. Depending upon what change you are seeking and where you currently are, I will draw from the wisdom of any of these approaches. But what I will always lead with is compassion, curiosity and trust in your higher being to help guide your process.

What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is an engaged process where you have focused time to explore your inner world with a compassionate, curious and knowledgable guide. Although we all have active external lives, we also have inner experiences that inform our mood, relationship dynamics, perception and overall state of mind. We normally don’t share or reveal these internal workings of our mind – we just have them ping-ponging around in our head and sometimes they are the cause of a lot of anxiety, depression, guilt or stuckness.
Therapy is a place to slow down and take a look “under the hood,” so to speak. Therapy is a resource to help you process difficult situations and find new solutions. It’s a way to make what has been unconscious, conscious. Sometimes we are practicing feeling our emotions in order to process them, and other times we are using contemplation and trying to change old ways of being into more effective, happier ones. I see my role as a therapist like a nature guide, and we are both walking around in the wilderness together, figuring out the next best path that brings you to a little more ease, a little more freedom, a little more happiness.
People often come to therapy when they feel stuck at their growth edge. They aren’t sure how to move forward, but they know there is a place beyond where they are at. My goal is to help you live comfortably at your growth edge so that you have a better sense of what to do to move forward. Life will continue to give you experiences that can expand you as long as you are here, and so my goal is to help you feel more effective at navigating your life experiences so that you have positive change as the result.
